Excellent food and clean/pleasant dining experience! Service was great, and our party of 6 adults and 6 children had no complaints. We went on a Sunday when the mariachi band was playing and they were excellent! This is a hidden gem in Council Bluffs, and SO much better than La Mesa.

If you aren't hard to please when it comes to Mexican food, Puerto Vallarta is a fine option. First, and this is a biggie: there's complimentary chips and salsa. The chips are super thin, and the salsa pretty spicy and tasty. Last weekend I ordered a cheese enchilada meal with enchiladas, rice and beans. It was served warm, and it all tasted just fine. The service was slow on this Saturday night, but our server was kind and attentive. The ambiance is cookie-cutter, with some decor flourishes here and there. The restaurant is clean and spacious. Big plus: this place is family-run, so if you visit feel good about supporting local business.

Food is ok nothing tasty nothing special. Chipotle burrito marked as spicy was very bland and not flavorful. Service was pretty good and prices are average. Atmosphere typical for Mexican restaurant.

Disappointed. Terrible margarita on the rocks. You know when a Mexican restaurant doesn't know how to make a margarita you're going to be in trouble. The food itself was pretty good. Of course the serving size is way too much and thus the cost is way too much but that is most restaurants. A good waiting staff/manager should take a notice and ask how the food/drinks are. A full margarita should always be a hint! haha I wouldn't go back or recommend this place to anybody.

AVOID THIS TERRIBLE PLACE!!! Surly. That is how I would describe our waiter. When we asked what the specials are he said "what? ... Oh we don't have any right now." Then he walked away before we could continue any conversation. Cheese dip tasted like warm cream cheese with no flavor. The salsa was nice and spicy though and our food came pretty fast. The chimi changas (sp?) tasted like stale fry oil and was full of tasteless beef. No veggies. The rice was dry and had no flavor. So basically salsa is the only reason I am giving this place a star at all. Otherwise if I could I would give them 0. Save your time and go to Taco Bell. On top of everything else after our food arrived we never saw our waiter again. We sat waiting to pay the bill for over 20 minutes. No one so much as asked us if we needed water. And if you think that the management will care you are wrong. We were told basically tough crap. We asked to speak to the owner and then we were told the manager actually was the owner how sad.

The whole night was a disaster. My husband and I were seated, had orders taken for drinks. We then received chips n salsa nearly 5 minutes before getting our drinks. My husband then orders carne assada which came to him whole (it took 15 minutes to get a steak knife). And without the grilled onions. I ran out of water halfway through my meal never to receive a refill. I could understand it if were drinking soda as its a little more expensive) but all I needed was a little bit of water. Come on, is this truly the service you give to your patrons. I won't b back and will try to warn off all my friends n family.

This place is not terrible but it is by no means anything special. It is very LaMesa-ish with a larger menu. This is not necessarily a bad thing but the food is not up to par. The guacamole was pre-made and pureed. The shrimp quesadilla tasted fishy, and the huevos con chorizo was decent but nothing special. If you are in the area it is not terrible but I would never make the drive to CB for it again.

Very reasonably priced plates, excellent service, very good authentic hand made salsa, great food for the price, definitely coming back!

Terrible salsa (tastes like V8) and the service is worse. Been here 3 times and it just gets worse. No more chances!

If I could go with a half star, I'd go 3.5 with a mixed review, but I'm willing to give PV another try! I had the Burrito Puerto Vallarta. The burrito itself was OK, but the "sauce" that was on it tasted just like ketchup. I had to douse it in salsa left over from the chips to camouflage the ketchup. My spouse had the chicken chimichanga, and it was quite tasty! So overall average of 3.5. I would dine at Puerto Vallarta again, but I wouldn't order the same dish.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
